Healthy Schools

In 2007 Fairfield signed up to the Welsh Network of Healthy Schools Scheme. The scheme aims to improve the health and well-being of children and young people in Wales by encouraging and supporting schools to develop a broad health education curriculum, which is supported by the environment and ethos of the school.

To achieve a healthy schools award, we have to set three health targets each year. These are assessed at the end of the year, when we are visited by members of the Vale of Glamorgan Network of Healthy Schools.  Our 2008 targets were developed from pupils’ ideas and from the Welsh Assembly initiative for a Healthy Living Week.  At the end of successfully completing Phase 2 of the scheme, the Healthy Schools Assessor commented that:

Pupils are keen to be involved in all aspects of school life and this reflects the pro-active approach taken by the school to these areas.
