Fairfield School Council
Each year, the pupils in each class vote to select a volunteer from their class to represent them in Fairfield School Council.
These pupils meet weekly with the School Council Support teacher (Mrs Williams) to discuss and decide the best ways to make improvements to various areas of school life, and communicate important information from and to the pupils, staff and other members of the school community.
Examples of School Council Activity:
- Researched and collaborated on the planning and construction of the KS2 Outdoor Performance Stage, the relaxation station and the Foundation Phase Playground design.
- Completed a survey about the Curriculum, and as a result started Sgwad Cymraeg to support fun learning through the medium of Welsh.
- Raised funds to buy books for the library and plants for the outdoor area.
- Organised an enterprise week to raise money for charity and school resources.
- Attend training on Childrens Rights, then present assemblies and activities to share their knowledge with the rest of the school.
- Discuss requests and suggestions for improvements to school dinners with Ms Lewis and Mrs George the School Cook.
- Attend joint School Council meetings with other Primary and Secondary Schools in the area.
- Deliver a Harvest collection to local food hubs.
- Organise Awareness Days, such as Show Racism the Red Card, Anti-Bullying week (Odd Socks Day), Children in Need (SPOTACULAR Day) and Comic Relief (Red to Toes Day).
- Collected ideas from the pupils about new school rules and shared this information with Ms Lewis.
