Lunch Time at Fairfield
School Meals
What kind of food is served for school dinners?
The Catering is provided by the Big Fresh Catering Company. The kitchen is staffed by trained and caring professionals committed to achieving the highest standards. The menus provide a healthy, nutritious and balanced meal for your child, fully complying with the Government’s Nutritional Standards. In addition to the normal menu, Big Fresh can offer vegetarian and vegan menus as well as menus for specific medical diets. The vegetarian and vegan meals can be provided on receipt of a supporting letter from parents / carers whilst the meals for specific medical diets can be provided on receipt of a supporting letter from the pupil’s GP or Dietician.

How do I arrange for my child to have school dinners?
A dinner register is called by the class teacher every morning to ask children whether they are having a school dinner or packed lunch. From September 2022 all children in Foundation Phase will receive universal free school dinners funded by the Welsh Government. Payment for children in KS2 is made via ParentPay which is a safe, secure and convenient method of online payment. School dinners are £2.45 a day. Parents are asked to ensure that they keep their account in credit as the cashless till in the kitchen will not allow processing of any meal where an account is significantly in deficit. Please click here to access information about ParentPay and to log in to activate an account.
Free School Meals
Application forms to apply for free school meals are available from the school office. Please ensure you fill in a form, even if your child is receiving free dinners in Foundation Phase, as we receive increased funding for pupils who are eligible for free school meals. If you are unsure of whether you are entitled to claim for free school meals, please contact Mrs. Duffy, School Administrator.
Packed Lunches
What can my child take for packed lunch?
Please give children a healthy and balanced meal with a drink, but no sweets or chocolate bars. No glass bottles, and no fizzy drinks please. Packed lunches should be in a container that is clearly marked with your child’s name.
